Werrington Parish Council Agrees Budget and Precept for 2026/27
At its January meeting, Werrington Parish Council approved its budget and parish precept for the 2026/27 financial year, which begins on 1 April 2026.
Following detailed discussion and careful financial planning, councillors unanimously agreed to a 5% increase in the Parish Council’s element of the Council Tax precept. For a Band D property, this means the annual charge will increase from £56.58 in 2025/26 to £59.41 in 2026/27.
The Council recognises that any increase in Council Tax is a concern for residents. However, it is important to note that the Parish Council’s share represents only a small proportion of the overall Council Tax bill. To ensure transparency, the Council has published a table showing the annual and monthly increase for each Council Tax band, clearly setting out the actual cost impact for households.
The agreed budget will allow the Parish Council to:
- Progress plans to improve Meigh Road Playing Fields
- Earmark funds for ongoing investment in parish facilities
- Continue work on the Neighbourhood Plan
In addition, the Council is mindful that, as a result of local government review and devolution, further community assets may be transferred to parish level. Being financially prepared will ensure the Parish Council is able to responsibly manage any additional assets for the long-term benefit of the community.
Werrington Parish Council wishes to reassure residents that financial decisions are never taken lightly. Councillors carefully scrutinise budgets and future commitments, with a strong focus on protecting local services and investing in facilities that benefit residents. The needs of the community remain at the heart of every decision the Council makes.
